Automotive and AI Solutions – Designed in Dresden

The Development Center (DC) of Infineon Dresden was launched in 2019 and is growing successfully. Today, about 60 experts and young talents are working on research and development of new products and solutions for automotive and power electronics, chip design and verification, characterization of complex systems as well as development of products and solutions with artificial intelligence. In the long term, the Development Center will employ around 250 people. State-of-the-art research and characterization labs facilitate R&D activities for automotive applications, electro mobility and AI chips of the next but one generation. The Development Center covers the complete development value chain from product and system definition to qualification. //n Artificial intelligence is a key topic at the DC: Smart chips with embedded AI, intuitive sensor solutions and AI accelerators with extremely low power consumption. Edge-AI enables data processing with artificial intelligence close to the sensor without communicating with a cloud. This makes applications more energy-efficient, faster and safer. The first Infineon chip with edge-AI is developed in Dresden. The DC is also researching on novel neuromorphic processor architectures for ultra-low power object detection and classification for autonomous driving. Neuromorphic hardware is improving energy efficiency by factor 100. This enables new embedded sensor and data processor chip solutions for future edge-AI applications. //n Sebastian Simon is a former TU Dresden student and currently working as Senior Manager for Concept, Digital Design and Verification at the DC. His colleague Dr. Tobias Lieske is also part of the team in his role as Senior Engineer Digital Design & Functional Verification.
