The World Trade Organization (WTO) aims to use trade to improve living standards, create jobs, and enhance lives globally. It manages global trade rules, assists developing economies, and offers a forum for negotiating trade agreements and resolving disputes. The WTO has 164 members, representing 98% of world trade.
The WTO Secretariat, with about 630 staff and led by Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, supports various councils and committees, provides technical aid to developing economies, monitors global trade, shares information about WTO activities, organizes ministerial conferences, offers legal assistance in disputes, and advises prospective members. Its headquarters is based in Geneva, Switzerland.
